Raised on the prairies near Freeman, South Dakota, Viki Graber learned willow basketmaking from her father, LeRoy Graber, who received a 2009 National Heritage Fellowship. Viki has lived in the large Mennonite community of Goshen for over 30 years and continues to practice her family’s celebrated craft. She uses a variety of colorful willows, many of which she grows in her backyard. While her ancestors primarily made workbaskets, Viki strives to create baskets that are utilitarian works of art. She wants her clients to appreciate the visual, tactile, and functional beauty of her craft.
